Class Descriptions

PRESCHOOL: The primary goal of our preschool dance classes is to foster a love for dance and movement. Classes consist of ballet and tap, with some instructors beginning class with basic acrobatics. These classes are designed to introduce body awareness, coordination, and self-expression. Designed specifically for preschool-aged dancers, these classes expose students to the fundamentals of dance while using creativity and exploration in a fun
learning environment.

COMBO: Our combo classes are geared for experienced kindergarteners and beginning 1st graders. Students will learn ballet and tap, with some instructors adding acrobatics in the beginning of class. These classes are designed to enhance body awareness, coordination,
and self-expression. Students will become more familiar with dance vocabulary and discipline while learning in a fun, uplifting environment.

BALLET: Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. Proper body placement and alignment are emphasized. Flexibility, balance, coordination, strength, and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work. Basic ballet terminology is introduced in our novice classes and continued throughout our most advanced levels. Advanced level ballet classes include pointe technique in the curriculum.

JAZZ: Jazz is an exciting and ever-evolving dance form that explores and encourages individual expression and the development of personal style. Jazz can be strong and powerful or expressive and lyrical. Classes include basic to advanced jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality with an emphasis on precise execution of choreography.

TAP: Tap is an important component of traditional and contemporary dance that is often incorporated into musicaltheatre and other genres of dance.  Students will learn rhythmic variations and performance skills through a series of tap combinations. Novice classes will focus on basic rhythms and terminology while advanced classes will add more difficult variations to the choreography.

MODERN: Modern dance blends technique with creativity and expressiveness and is a key component to a dancer’s versatility. Our Modern classes incorporate Graham, Humphrey, Limon and Cunningham techniques. Classes are done barefoot and explore a variety of movements and techniques throughout warm-up and combinations from beginning to advanced students.

MUSICAL THEATRE: Musical theatre dance is a fun and educational way to bring performance technique to dancers of all ages. Students enrolled in musical theatre will learn dance steps combined with theatrical performance and characterization. Dancers will learn a range of choreography, some of which is straight from the Broadway stage! Whether it is for the beginner or the seasoned dancer, musical theatre dance is a great way to become an even more versatile dancer.

HIP HOP: Our beginning hip hop class offers young students the opportunity to have fun and move to upbeat music in an uplifting, positive environment. Students will learn basic hip hop skills through choreography and different rhythmic styles. The intermediate class offers a faster pace and range of hip hop exercises geared for more experienced dancers. Intermediate students will learn a variety of hip hop combinations geared to
improve their versatility as dancers as well as their stamina, movement dynamics, and confidence.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY: Our lyrical/contemporary classes are geared for intermediate and advanced dancers who want to broaden their technique and performance skills. This class utilizes fluid movements and combinations with emotional motivation. Students will experiment with musicality, improvisation, and personal expression while learning the fundamentals of lyrical and contemporary movements.

ZUMBA: We are proud to have St. Augustine’s most popular Zumba instructor at our studio, Miss Heidi Pidcock! Known for her high-energy classes that are sure to get you moving, Heidi’s routines are a fun way to exercise and sweat it out!

PILATES: Our Pilates Mat class aims to promote proper core control, balance, and alignment. Jessica Lengyel is our certified Pilates instructor and leads the class for all levels of students. Take some time for yourself and enjoy this class while overlooking the beautiful ocean!
