Welcome new and returning dancers and parents!!

Another exciting year of dance is about to begin! Our classes begin on Monday, August 22nd!

If you haven’t registered yet, there’s no need to worry. Simply stop by our studio, call us at 904.471.4946 or email us at thedancestudio@bellsouth.net, and we will be happy to assist you.

Fall 2011 Registration!

For our previously enrolled students, class placements and registration forms have been mailed out. For our new dancers, we will be having open registration at The Dance Company.

Come join us at the studio at one of the following times to register for classes!

  • Thursday, August 11: 10am-4pm
  • Friday, August 12: 10am-4pm
  • Saturday, August 13: 10am-4pm
  • Monday August 15: 10am-4pm

2011-2012 class offerings include Pre-School Classes, Combo Classes, Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Modern, Hip-Hop, Musical Theatre Dance and Adult Classes.  Instructors and staff will be helping at registration to answer questions and guide you in the right direction. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you are unable to make it to any of these registration dates, you may stop by our studio during our first week of classes beginning on August 22nd!

2011-2012 Company Auditions!

Auditions for the 2011-2012 Company team will be held on Saturday, July 30th and Wednesday, August 3rd!

Our Company Team is a group of dedicated, enthusiastic dancers who share a passion and drive for the art of dance. Company dancers rehearse and perform several times throughout the year in addition to their regular classes. Please look at our Company tab on the website to learn more about our Company dancers. Dancers ages 8-18 are welcome to audition. If you are interested in being a part of our Company, please attend one of the following audition dates:

 

Saturday, July 30th:

Ages 8-10: 10:00am-11:30am

Ages 11+: 12:00pm-2:00pm

or

Wednesday, August 3rd:

Ages 8-10: 4:30pm-6:00pm

Ages 11+: 6:30pm-8:00pm

 

*Dancers must come ready to audition. We recommend dancers arriving about 30 minutes prior to their audition time to warm themselves up before dancing. Proper audition attire is required.

 

General Requirements:

Time Commitments:

  • Company rehearsals will be during the weekdays for 1 hour per Company team
  • All Company rehearsals and events (performances and trips)
  • A minimum of 1 Saturday a month
  • At least 2 Company trips
  • Fundraisers and benefits

 

Financial Commitment:

  • Company fee of $200 per dancer (includes Company shirt, jacket and guest choreographers)
  • Costumes (About $50 per dance)
  • Trips/Competitions
  • Dance Shoes (Varies on the number of dances you are in, about $40 each)

 

Dance Requirements:

  • You must be enrolled full time in a ballet and jazz class at The Dance Company
  • Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theater, etc are required to be taken if you plan to perform a company dance in that style. (Example: You must be enrolled in Modern if wanting to be in the Modern Company dance.)

Dance Ability Requirements

Junior Apprentice Company

  • Right and left full splits and overall flexibility
  • Clean single pirouette, right and left
  • Tuck jumps, front and side leaps
  • Intermediate ballet level
  • Ability to pick up and remember choreography and style

Junior Company

  • Right and left full splits and overall flexibility
  • Double pirouettes, right and left
  • Intermediate/advanced ballet level
  • Side leaps, axles, surprise leaps, calypsos
  • Ability to pick up and remember choreography and style

Senior Apprentice Company

  • Right and left full splits and overall flexibility
  • Triple pirouettes, right and left
  • Front, side, and switch leaps, calypsos, axles, surprise and reverse leaps
  • Fouettes
  • Advanced ballet technique
  • Ability to pick up and remember choreography and style

Senior Company

  • Right and left full splits and overall flexibility
  • Leaps, side leaps, switch leaps, turning switch leaps, calypsos, reverse leaps
  • Triple pirouettes, right and left
  • Fouettes and turns in second
  • Advanced ballet technique
  • Ability to pick up and remember choreography and style
  • Peak physical condition

Recital Check List!

Here are some important items to remember when packing up your bags for recital:

  • Costumes
  • Recital Tights
  • Dance Shoes
  • Makeup
    • Brown and white eye shadow for eyes (We recommend Maybelline’s “Natural Smokes” 4-pack)
    • Black eyeliner and mascara
    • False Eyelashes for Company Dancers (and Advanced level classes)
    • Red Lipstick (Company uses Maybelline’s #645 “Red Revival”- this is a great color for ALL dancers!!)
    • Blush over cheekbones
  • Hair Supplies
    • Bobbi pins, hair ties, hair spray, hair net
    • All PreSchool, Combo, Novice, and Intermediate classes will have their hair secured in a bun!
    • All Company and Advanced level classes will have their hair parted on the left side and French braided into a straightened pony tail (and put into a bun for ballet). Refer to Stephanie and Catie’s example at rehearsal!
  • Clear liquids and dry snacks (Bottled water, pretzels, gold fish, nuts, etc.)
  • PreSchool and Combo classes- Large cover-up to wear in audience after or before performance (so the audience can’t see your costume before you’re on stage!) 
  • Smiles!!

 

*We are always in need of extra bobbi pins, safety pins, hair ties, and hair spray backstage! Donations are greatly appreciated!!

Summer Dance Intensive

August 8-August 12th, 2011
